How to Enable Password/Biometrics in Google Chrome Incognito Tab
GLOBAL DIGITAL TIMES | The search giant is finally bringing a feature to Android that was already present on iOS, while Samsung Internet already offers a similar option in its browser.
Google announced that they are releasing to all Android users a feature of blocking the viewing of Chrome incognito tabs via biometrics or passwords. In this way, it is impossible to check or continue to view visited pages without the owner's access permission. However, the novelty is disabled by default, requiring manual activation.
The project has been in development by the search giant since 2021, but only a few months ago it appeared in the most stable version of Chrome 105 for Android. Now the feature is finally here for all those users who want more privacy.
Once a user has enabled password protection or biometrics for an incognito browser tab, this access will always be required before continuing a private session. It is worth mentioning that this option may be new to Android devices, but it has been around for a long time in iOS gadgets.
Meaning, Google may be slow, but as the old saying goes, "better late than never".
In any case, it seems that the focus of this update is on increasing the level of individual privacy and security. We admit that we don't want third parties to see what we search for on our smartphone or tablet.
However, if other people have access to your device, leaving the app in an incognito tab may not be enough to maintain the desired level of intimacy. That's where password protection or biometrics comes in.
How to Enable Passwords or Biometrics in Chrome Incognito Tabs
- Open the browser settings on your smartphone device
- Select the "Privacy and Security" option
- Finally, enable the "Lock tabs in incognito tabs when I close Chrome" toggle.
The company says that if the feature is not available to users yet, be patient as it will appear in an update soon.
Samsung Internet already offers this feature
South Korean firm Samsung's internet browser also has the option to access anonymous guides via biometrics. It needs to configure first, but after that, whenever user wants to open incognito tab, it is necessary to unlock it using fingerprint.
Another app that has privacy as its lure is the Brave browser, which is very quick to use and doesn't allow tracking of your browsing. Others, like the Epic browser, also have a built-in VPN, block ads and don't store information like history or cookies.
Either way, if you prefer to use passwords over fingerprints, it's good to know how to create secure passwords for apps and websites. The way to create a secure password is by combining uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Also keep in mind, that the password for each account needs to be different to prevent hacking.
